Dr. Ann Turner

Dr. Ann Turner received her Associates of Science at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, and her Bachelor's of Science in Molecular Biology at the University of Wyoming. She earned her DVM from Colorado State University in 1996. Dr. Turner opened SAES in 2006. She is also and avid, high-level Dressage competitor.


Dr. Tim Staudt

Dr. Tim Staudt attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Biology-Pre-Veterinary Medicine with minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. He graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine May 2001.


Dr. Laura Whitehead

Dr. Laura Whitehead is from Huntington Beach, California and is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. She graduated from California State University (Long Beach) and attended the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she began a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine at North Carolina State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Whitehead's interests include Oncology and Critical Care Medicine. 


Dr. Meghan Ellis

Dr. Meghan Ellis graduated in 2008 form North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Her concentration was in zoological medicine.  She owns and operates the Family Veterinary Mobile Clinic in Sandford, N.C.

Dr. Kristyn Commerford

Dr. Kristyn Commerford graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from North Carolina State University. Following graduation from veterinary school in 2010, she entered private practice. She has also worked in both a small animal emergency practice and high a volume spay/neuter non profit for a year before returning to academia to complete an equine medicine and surgery internship. Dr. Commerford is certified in veterinary spinal manipulation aka veterinary chiropractic and veterinary acupuncture for dogs, cats and horses. She works part time for Small Animal Emergency Services and in the rest of her time she offers house call veterinary care, rides her horses and spends time with her husband and dogs.


Practice Manager

Alan J. Rose

Canadian born, Alan came to the Sandhills at the age of 10. Educated in local schools, he achieved a Bachelors Degree from UNC Pembroke. He currently enjoys coaching recreation soccer and has a family of strong willed females. Alan joined our clinic in 2007 and served as Head Technician from June 2015 through April 2019.

Shania Zastrow

Born in Wisconsin, Shania spent most of her life living up north before moving to North Carolina in 2005. Shania graduated college in 2011 with an Associates Degree in Animal Science and started working at SAES soon after. When not at work, she can be found relaxing with her 3 dogs, reading, or listening to an eclectic mix of music.


Krista Marlin

Krista Marlin moved to NC from Virginia Beach, VA in 1995. She has worked in veterinary field on and off since she moved to NC. She has been with SAES since 2016, is currently working on her technician certification and will graduate next year. Afterwards she plans on pursuing her critical care certification. She occupies most of her time with her horses, grandchildren and her Great Dane "Dragon".  Krista is CPR certified in basic and advanced life support from American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care


Nicole Rogers, RVT

Born and raised in Durham, NC, she first went to Lees McRae College (Banner Elk, NC) where she took pre-vet courses. Nicole moved to Pinehurst in 2013 to enroll in a VMT program. She graduated in 2015. Nicole plans to continue her education in canine rehabilitation in the near future. In Nicole's free time you can find her cheering on her favorite sports teams, hanging out with her three dogs (rescued German Shepherds) and three cats (rescued kittens and a Bengal), or trying out the new craft beers.


Thomas Avery McNeill - TMC

Thomas, also known as TMC, is a product of Southern Roots raised in a Northern Environment. TMC has a background in Criminal & Matrimonial Law, Cargo importing and exporting, as well as various computer based skills he has developed over the years. After rescuing his first 3 canines, back in 2010, TMC knew he wanted to dedicate his life to helping animals of all kinds. When TMC is not working @ SAES he is running his business which includes film, music and social media production. TMC & his wife enjoys spending his free time with "The Pack" which has grown to include 5 dogs, 2 cats, several reptiles and rodents, and various birds and fish.
